Before we even get to applying makeup, you need to consider three things:

Your skin tone
Your costume
Your features

Why are these important? Well even if you pick sexy lipstick, using it on the wrong face makes you look very, very cheap and sloppy. You want to look sexy, not un-done.

When it comes to your skin tone, the lighter your features, the deeper the color. The darker the color, the lighter the color. It's essential sexy makeup 101, so to speak. If you look at any well-known sexed up stars such as Tyra Banks or Lindsay Lohan, you can see what makeup works well.

Of course you don't want to forget your costume. You don't want to wear dark, 40s-esque makeup when you're dressed as a sexy football player. It just won't work. Consider the type of makeup that's usually associated with your costume. For instance, if your Halloween costume is a sexy baseball player, stay away from dark lipstick. You want to go tomboyish, rugged, with lots of eyeliner and pale lip balm.

Another key part is your features. If you're a normal makeup diva, you know what works well and what doesn't. Wearing deep red lipstick when you have huge lips makes you look clownish. Wearing frosted lip gloss on thin, pale lips makes your lips even more smaller. That's something you need to watch out for when picking the right makeup for your Halloween costume.

Apply, Pat, and Go

Now once you've picked up the essentials, start applying! Here are some things to avoid:

It should match your costume to an extent. Don't do cat eyeliner when you're wearing a sports uniform.

Avoid lining your lips. This is a pre-millennial practice. It's out and will stay out.

For eye shades, choose ones that complement your eye color. Green goes best with brown. Brown is best with blue.

Don't overdo it. Makeup this season is all about not overdoing it.

Do a test run a couple of days before Halloween. Once you've applied your makeup, put on your sexy Halloween costume and take a picture. Send it to friends and family and ask them if it looks fine. If everything is satisfactory, then it's ready to go.

One Thing Makeup Can't Replace

Don't forget to add something after you're done applying makeup -- your self-confidence.

Self confidence is very, very sexy. Without having that attitude, that "I know I'm sexy!" attitude, you can't exude it, especially through your makeup. Wear your Halloween costume around the house and practice this attitude. Tell yourself that you are sexy, that your makeup really accentuates your sexy demeanor. Once you've got that sexy attitude down, Halloween is safe sailing. Remember, you can't prance around during Halloween expecting to look sexy in your costume without that. Otherwise it's just you in a skimpy Halloween costume looking silly. Confidence is sexy! Exude that confidence through your Halloween costume and you'll be ready to party in your costume this Halloween. As they say in France, la confiance est pour toujours sexy!
